Lisa Wright is an author of young adult and middle grade fiction, and she has written and published nonfiction. She has also created inspirational full color lined journals. Wright is the author of the cheerleader series The Totally True Tales of my Cheerleader Life Series (Books 1 and 2 out now on Amazon). Wright was a cheerleader from middle school through college, and she was a cheerleading and tumbling coach, first at a gym, then at the middle school and high school level. She even had a small competitive cheer gym of her own for a few years. She has been a public school educator for her entire adult life (English and journalism teacher/current high school counselor) and has never forgotten what being a kid feels like.
In her words: I was a cheerleader in middle school, high school, and college, and I love cheer as much now as I did in 7th grade. (Competitive cheer gyms didn’t become a “thing” until my first years as a teacher.) I also loved school, which is why (I now know) I chose to spend my entire adult life in schools. My high school cheer squad took great pride in being good, and my college coed cheer squad won NCA Nationals (#TVCC #GoCards). It was the first cheer national championship for the school. The experience of competing at Nationals was unlike anything else I had ever experienced, and the moment we won was something so special and perfect, I knew I would never forget it as long as I lived.
The cheerleading world has exploded since my cheerleading days, but the cheer experience is still something not everyone gets to live first-hand. The Totally True Tales of my Cheerleader Life book series is ultimately about that unique experience and the relationships we form along the way.
Live. Love. Cheer.
